The Benefits of AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Training

Training classes teach you how to best communicate with your puppy. Organized training classes also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. In classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program

As of January 1, 2013, Canine Good Citizen® is an official AKC title that can appear on the title records of dogs registered or listed with AKC. Dog owners who complete the CGC as a Title process may list the suffix “CGC” after the dog’s name.

Started in 1989, the CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

We offer classes and certification of the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, AKC CGC evaluations, Therapy Dog Certification through Love on a Leash and the training and information to get you and your dog ready for the AKC Therapy Dog Title.

Public Skills

On The Town Walking & Biking

These classes are the basics of public behavior, leash manners and socialization.  There are components of the obedience class, however these classes do NOT replace an obedience class.  This is a MUST class for those who intend to take their dogs into public venues.  We will gradually stretch your dog's ability to handle stressful situations in this class including:

1.  Walking or biking through crowds, streets & trails.
2.  Use of public elevators and public stairs.
3.  Loud noises including music and outdoor events which may include fast movements.
4.  Busy streets, intersections, bridges and terrain changes.
5.  Smells, sounds and other environments which the dogs must experience in the correct manner in order to maintain a good public standing.
6.  General city comings and goings.

PLEASE make certain that your dog is physically and mentally sound before enrolling in this course.
